Eighteen

In case anyone asks... I (Hannah) am a "grown-up," hard-to-believe, very un-eighteenish eighteen now!!!

Wow. I can't believe how time is flying by!! Maybe I'll be a "real" grown-up one of these days, haha!!

How the Blog Was Named

If you were wondering just why we call this blog "Westward, Ho!" then we'll tell you. Our family made a big move - from Rhode Island, to Eastern Washington - nearly three years ago, in the summer of 2007. We got the idea for a blog from some of our church friends, and our family collectively decided to call it "Westward, Ho!" after the slogan that the travelers on the Oregon Trail used in the 1800s. So that's the simple story on how our blog got its name!!

But here's something you also may not know. If you ever read the seventeenth century English playwright Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, you'll discover that "Westward, Ho!" is actually a phrase used by one of his characters! So the phrase has a history that goes much further than 1800's Oregon Trail traveler's motto.
