Hello, all!
*
Here is the link to a prayer book for the ALERT Academy Basic Training Unit 40. http://www.alertacademy.com/alert/pdf/prayercalendars/080089-unit-40-prayer-booklet.pdf. It may take a little while to load, depending on your connection. Joe is in 2nd Bravo, all the way down on page 6.
*
I will post pictures of Sarah's birthday as soon as we finish the celebration (or, as soon as possible!!)
*
Hoping you have a blessed Sabbath!

Farm Question #2

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Farm Question #2!
*
First, the answer to farm question #1 - What is the difference between straw and hay... if there is any difference at all?
*
Answer:
Hay is grown as a grass. When it gets tall enough, farmers cut it down, dry it, bale it, and feed it to their animals. Basically, it is just dry grass. Alfalfa, orchard grass, and other grass mixes are cut and used for hay.
Straw is the leftover stalks of grains such as wheat, oats, and rye. After harvesting the grain, the farmers cut down the stalks and dry them, then bale them for straw. Straw has little to no nutritional value and so is used for bedding. It is the yellow stuff you see in pictures of sleeping cows. :-)
*
Okay... now for Farm Question #2!!!!
*

What is the generic term (the word for both male and female) of the animal in the above picture?

*

You can post your answer here in comment form, or, if you do not have Blogger, you can email it to us! You can use either Dad's or the family's address. Just be sure to put in the subject line: "Blog::Farm Question #2::9-29-08"

Have fun!!!!! - Hannah

P.S. Congradulations to Holly for giving the correct answer to FQ#1!!

Barn Repainting & More

Hello, ladies and gentlemen and blog readers of all ages!
*
I come to y'all this morning bearing pictures of rabbits, trees, cats, cows... a rather interesting and diverse assortment of things. And, in addition... barn painting pictures.
*
I don't know how many of you know that we are repainting our barns... well - we are! If you've noticed in recent pictures of our barns they look kind of orange-ish with white spots, right? Well, that's because Dad had to pressure-wash all the old paint off so we could put the new coats on. The white spots are where he caulked it to keep the weather from getting at the old boards. We started this project several weeks ago, and recently, Dad rented a big "lift" so that we could reach the really high parts. (He enjoyed that!)
*
So, I hope you all have a nice day and enjoy the pictures!
*
For the rest of the family,
Hannah
Dad.

Up... up... up!

Close-up.

Half-finished barn - lookin' good!

I had to tilt the camera to get the whole thing!

This is such a neat photographic subject! (thanks to Sarah!)

New discoveries in brown and white... yet again!

Tons of hay - literally!

Baby rabbit ... ain't it cuuuute?!

Lotsa baby rabbits!

What IS it that you want?

Now, you all must come back for another visit soon!

Joe In Texas

Hello, everyone!
*
I am posting with a request for prayer for Joe. He left at 3:00 Monday morning to go to ALERT(Air Land Emergency Resource Team) Training down in Big Sandy, Texas. (http://www.alertacademy.com/alert/). He will be gone for nine weeks!
*
Here is the ALERT training blog - http://www.alertacademy.com/alert/blog/. They do sometimes post... in fact, they just did this morning with pictures of the opening night. In the picture where all the young men are sitting on the floor listen to Col. Tanner, Joe is just above the word "academy" in the red shirt. Then, in the picture in the gym of the young men on the right side and the ALERT men (in blue) on the left, Joe is all the way to the right (in his red shirt, still :-). And in the last picture where you see all of them, he's on the right in the very back.
*
God bless you with a wonderful day!
